We are interested. The first week would be very tight but otherwise very open. Thanks for getting the ball rolling.

I am sitting in a waiting room waiting for Mark.... and just checked out Smugglers Den. Looks like a nice place. 2200 miles for us land-locked Coloradans! We will most definitely plan more before and after while we are up in that area. Gotta make those miles count!
We will be checking out your other campground recommendations. Our normal "laid back pick a campground as we drive" way of travel may not work for that area! (Much like I had to make advance plans for this summer's plans in the Colorado Rockies!)

Shooting for the third week in August.
Check in will be after 1pm Sunday, August 19th 2018.
Check out is 11am Sunday August 26th 2018.

Rain, the owner is out right now with a new born. Joyce is now doing reservations. The earliest we can book (tenatively) is August 20th 2017, One year in advance.

The campground is popular and fills up fast. You will need to make a deposit to hold your site.

Sites 90 -94, Cement Pads Three way, back in sites. 94 is nearest the pool.
Sites 122 -125 are across the street from sites 92 -94. They are Cement back in, three way sites.
108 -110 are pull through three way sites on cement pads across the street from site 91.
80 - 89C are along the tree line, they are all back in sites, packed gravel and most will accomodate 38 - 40' Fifth wheels.
Sites 71 - 75 are opposite the 80 series sites, are tree covered.

Site 72 has been used as a Rally Master Site as there is substantial extra room that can accomodate a 10' x 20' Rally tent for gathering, pot lucks, and general meeting area. Although I like the cement pads, this site I may book because of the room. I have 2 each 10' x 20' tents.

Notice the trail head near cabins 5 and 7. This trail leads to one of Acadia's many trails, heads to Echo Lake sand beach and to Long Pond Trail. The Echo Lake trail branches to the Cliffs Trail and to the Beech Mountain trail. You could spend nearly an entire day on trails and not even get into your vehicle.

See the campground map attached as a link.

Maine campgrounds and cabin rentals. Make your next family vacation at our Maine campgrounds. Bring your trailer or choose one of our cabin rentals. Near Acadia National Park.

Just spoke with Smugglers Den. Campground policy allows people staying at the campground at a particular time to rebook for the following year at the same time. Although Rain may be able to make some arrangements a head of time, booking for the rally will probably not start until August 26th.

So mark your calendars! And do not delay! Phone number is (and will be posted at the head of the thread)

Folks the Acadia rally will take a back seat to the Pigeon Forge Rally, which will be a more important event!

At this point Tina and I will be doing both Pigeon Forge and Acadia. For us, Acadia is less than 5 hours away and is easily done.

If you can do only one of these rallies, the Pigeon Forge Rally would be the more important one to attend. Please see the Rally Thread for more information!

                      Thank you for understanding!

I'd like to do both rallies as well. I've been to Pigeon Forge many times and it's fun, but I've never been to Maine, so that is my top priority.

Help me get this straight, please. There is nothing we can do to sign up for the Acadia rally until 8/26/17 and then we call the campground and speak to the owner, Rain. Is he blocking sites for us? Or are we going to be scattered around??

Good Morning Doc! To try to make this clear, Smugglers Den has a reservation policy that more campgrounds are seeming to use. (Which I don't like).

Essentially, if you were camping there this weekend, and wanted to camp again on the same site next year, during the same period, you have the option of making reservations for that site, during that period for next year prior to leaving the campground at the end of your stay.

Because of that policy, Rain would not / could not block sites for the week in August of 2018, until the Monday following the same week this year has passed. That gives the opportunity for people who have reserved in 2017 the option to reserve for 2018 if they choose.

The rub with this is that some people reserve the site and end up not being able to go for what ever reason. They wait to cancel until very close to the weekend or week they were planning on attending and it makes things a mess. We have run into this issue more recently on Dog and Trailer.com. That forum held 4 full blown rallies, 20 plus units 2010 - 2013. After the policy change, possibly 2014, we had great difficulty blocking a group of sites together.

Smugglers Den called me many times during the month prior to the scheduled rally to inform me of cancellations for various sites. I in turn needed to contact people who wanted to go but had no site, to have them call asap to reserve.

Maybe this is a good policy for the campground, but for trying to book a Rally, as far as I am concerned, it sucks. And Smugglers Den is probably the best suited to accomodate our larger units without bumping slides.

Rain will work with me. She knows who I am. I have helped fill thier campground with happy campers. We'll see what shakes out.

                          Eric

That's the long and short of it!

That is a good explanation, Eric, and we see the rub!
That said, there is a good possibility we could travel from Sevierville to Acadia and do both rallies. The 7th to the 19th allows ample time to travel the 1200 miles from Sevierville to Acadia.

                              Eric, thanks for the details.

I think we need a way to insure that all of us who are planning on going make sure we call in on August 26th to get our sites reserved.

Maybe we could build a list on the forum of those committed and present that list to Rain ahead of time. Then Rain could either call each of us or we could just call in with CC information to pay the deposit.

If Rain could put our list as the first set of reservations to setup on 8/26/17 for 8/19/18 that would sort of give us an advantage???

                              Would that work??
